Writing

My first job out of college as a summer writing intern for Science is still one that I often smile thinking about. I candidly (very candidly!) reflected on my experience in an article for The Journal of Young Investigators in summer 2005.

A favorite excerpt:
On covering a National Academies event solo during the very first day of my internship: That evening, I won’t forget running down the hall to catch a scientist before an elevator closed because someone had told me that Clyde was the person that I had to talk to for my story. He spoke with me downstairs, gave me some literature and told me that he had to catch a train but I could call him at his house after 10:00pm. I couldn’t believe that. He was also the first person to ask me for my business card, which was pretty funny. When he asked if I had a business card, my reaction was: "Oh my gosh, I do have one!" I was just a little excited about someone actually asking for my business card. I don’t think he knew what was going on, I believe his response was something along the lines of: "Okay…well, can I have one?" :)
Since then, I've written 100+ articles about science, business, education, and food for about a dozen publications. I'll add some favorites here soon. In the meantime, you can check out what my favorite science writer, Natalie Angier, has been inking.
